The E.W. Scripps Company, a Cincinnati, Ohio-based news and information enterprise, has announced the appointment of a new corporate secretary and chief ethics officer, following a shift in roles of two current employees.

Effective immediately, Julie McGehee, currently vice president of compensation and benefits, takes on the additional role of corporate secretary. Her new responsibilities include coordinating all activities of the full board and its committees, facilitating interaction between directors and senior management, and managing the annual shareholders meeting.

McGehee joined Scripps in May 2008 to design, plan and implement the company's benefits and compensation strategies. She previously had been the manager of executive compensation at Duke Energy/Cinergy and corporate secretary at Cincinnati Microwave.

In addition, Dave Giles, currently vice president and deputy general counsel, has been appointed chief ethics officer. In this new role, he will be responsible for ethics programs, policies and compliance across the company, and will manage ethics training and investigations. Since June 2004, Giles has been providing counsel to the company's nationwide news operations on issues related to the First Amendment, federal regulation, intellectual property, and employment matters.

The appointments follow the departure of long-time corporate secretary and chief ethics officer, Denise Kuprionis, who retired in July.
