When starting artificial intelligence efforts for companies large or small, one approach compliance practitioners said they’ve found works best is to start with a specific use case.
At some companies, that meant piloting the technology to help with content generation. At others, it’s been to support coding. But in each case, AI leaders said they’ve received support for more resources and headcount from their leadership by planning a small-scale test use case.
Speakers at Compliance Week’s inaugural AI & Compliance Summit shared how they had partnered with teams across their organizations to identify potential uses for AI technology, including legal, marketing, and product development. Some who spoke during the event shared they are moving carefully with functions like human relations, where potential bias built into how the technology behaves could cause larger issues.
The theme overall though was not to take on too much for any first AI project, regardless of company size. Ben Schreiner, head of AI and modern data strategy business development at Amazon Web Services, kicked off Day 2 of the summit with succinct encouragement for attendees: “Think big. Start small. Scale fast,” he said during the event, which was held under Chatham House Rule though he agreed to be quoted.
