Organizations must move beyond abstract theory and truly measure their compliance culture, a panel of experts discussed during Compliance Week’s 2023 National Conference in Washington, D.C.
Mike Koenig, global chief ethics and compliance officer at JBS Foods, participated in the discussion alongside Ann Marie Wick and Angie Gorman, each managing directors at FTI Consulting. The session expanded on a separate panel earlier at the conference addressing how to operationalize corporate culture.
Koenig kicked off the session by asking an important question regarding culture of compliance.
“It sounds kumbaya and squishy, but what does it really mean?” he said. “You have to tie culture of compliance to why is it going to make the business successful.”
Wick explained how recent changes by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to its Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs guidance underscore the need for organizations to address compliance culture.
