DIRECTV announced this week that John Murphy, the company's chief accounting officer, submitted his written resignation, which will take effect Aug. 14, 2014.

Murphy is resigning to pursue other career opportunities, the company said in a Form 8-K, dated July 29.

Patrick Doyle, who has served as chief financial officer since 2007, will serve as chief accounting officer upon Murphy’s resignation.
