As previously discussed here, on Monday the Ontario Superior Court issued a landmark ruling in the securities class action against IMAX Corp., certifying the first securities class action in Canada involving secondary market disclosures such as press releases. The ruling was also significant because the court certified a global class, meaning that the Canadian lawsuit will affect investors from other countries.

One of the lead lawyers for the plaintiffs in the case, Dimitri Lascaris of Siskinds in Ontario, hailed the decision as “a very good day for the investing public in Canada.” The court's certification of a global class has ramification far beyond Canada, however. Lascaris joined me in the interview below to discuss his work on the IMAX case, and the many novel issues the case has raised for investors worldwide.
