Corning, Inc., a world leader in specialty glass and ceramics, has named Carlos Gutierrez, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce to its Board of Directors, starting immediately. Gutierrez will hold office until Corning's annual meeting of shareholders on April 29, 2010, at which time it is expected he will be nominated to serve a three-year term.

Gutierrez served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce from February 2005 through January 2009 and as co-chair of the U.S. Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba during that same time period. He also served as chairman and chief executive officer of Kellogg Company from April 2000 through February 2005.

Corning's board jumps to 15 members with this latest appointment.
