ControlCase, a provider of compliance, information security, and risk management software, has announced the release of ControlCase Data Discovery (CDD) 4.0, the next generation of its credit card data discovery software.

CDD was one of the first software solutions that searches for unsecured credit and debit card data—not only in file systems, but also in most commercial and open-source databases—without installing agents on any scanned system. Release 4.0 includes significant new functionality, including Support for HPUX, AIX, Mac OS, Solaris x86, Solaris Sparc, and FreeBSD Operating System scanning; dashboard progress gauges; and a remediation dashboard to help remediate false positives, along with other powerful new features.

Release 4.0 also features improvements to CDD's existing functionality, including more comprehensive scan progress details, partial results process for cancelled scans, random record scanning for databases, and additional BIN range support.

After a number of recent high profile compromises in the press, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Council has stressed to the Qualified Security Assessors the importance of appropriate scoping of the Cardholder Data Environment. PCI DSS prohibits organizations from storing unencrypted cardholder data, making CDD integral for businesses adhering to the standard. CDD helps define the scope of PCI assessments and certifications rapidly and also helps concentrate assessment efforts.
