$107.7 billion Berkshire Hathaway has elected Stephen Burke, president of Comcast Cable Communications, and chief operating officer of parent Comcast, to its board of directors.

Burke is "business-savvy, owner-oriented and keenly interested in Berkshire, the three ingredients we look for in directors," CEO Warren Buffett said in a statement.

Burke joined Philadelphia-based Comcast in 1998 from Walt Disney Co., where he was president of ABC Broadcasting. He also currently serves on the board of JPMorgan Chase & Co.

His appointment brings the number of Berkshire Hathaway board members to 12.
