Cisco Systems announced last month in a Form 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it has launched an internal investigation into potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Cisco said in the filing, dated Feb. 20, that it launched an investigation at the request of the SEC and Justice Department into allegations regarding possible violations of the FCPA involving "business activities of the company's Russian operations and certain of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and by certain resellers of the company's products in those countries."

“The company takes any such allegations very seriously and is fully cooperating with, and sharing, the results of its investigation with the [SEC] and the [Justice] Department,” the company stated.

The outcome of the investigation is not able to be determined at this time, but Cisco “does not expect that [the investigation] will have a material adverse effect on its consolidated financial position, results of operations, or cash flows," the company stated.

News of the filing was first reported by Mike Koehler, author of the FCPA Professor blog.
