The CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals that sets the standard for professional excellence and credentials, has appointed Alan Meder chair of the Board of Governors, effective as of Sept. 1. Meder succeeds Daniel Meader, founder and managing partner of Trinity Private Equity Group, who continues to serve on the board as immediate past chair.

Meder is the chief risk officer of Chicago-based Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co., and the principal financial officer of four other investment companies. Meder leads a 17-member Board of Governors comprised of investment professionals from 10 countries, whose mission is to help CFA Institute create an environment where investors' interests come first, markets function at their best, and economies grow.

In addition to Meder's appointment, CFA Institute has elected Charles Yang as vice chair of the board. Yang is the chief investment officer of T&D Asset Management, based in Japan.

Each governor is elected by the CFA Institute membership for a three-year term that runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31.
