CA has announced five senior appointments in its law department, including the appointment of Gary Brown as chief compliance officer, and Joel Katz as chief ethics officer.

In his new role, Brown has responsibility for the handling of compliance issues and management of compliance improvement programs. Brown, who joined CA in 2005 after serving for 15 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, also continues in his role as CA’s chief counsel for litigation.

Katz, who joined CA in 2000, will have primary responsibility for CA’s global business practices and ethics awareness and training as well as the company’s ombudsman program. He continues in his role as associate general counsel leading the law department’s support of CA’s human resources and real estate activities.

Additional appointments announced by CA include:

Clifford DuPree as corporate secretary. Previously he served as assistant corporate secretary. DuPree joined CA in 2008 from The Reader’s Digest Association, where he was corporate secretary and associate general counsel;

Patricia Prince-Taggart as the law department’s managing attorney, responsible for the unit’s administrative and finance operations. Previously, she was deputy head of CA’s business practices and compliance. She joined CA in 2006 as an area counsel from Traq Wireless, where she was a corporate counsel; and

Lawrence Egan, associate general counsel, as head of CA’s regulatory compliance group in addition to his responsibilities associated with serving as counsel to CA’s Finance group. Egan joined CA in 2005 as a senior counsel and assistant corporate secretary. Previously, he was a counsel and an assistant corporate secretary at Merrill-Lynch.

The appointments were made as the result of a decision by Kenneth Handal, executive vice president of global risk and compliance, and corporate secretary, to retire later this year. All appointments are effective immediately.
