Investment management company BNY Mellon has appointed Kevin McCarthy as general counsel. He will also be a member of the BNY Mellon executive committee.

McCarthy replaces Jane Sherburne, who has departed BNY Mellon to consider opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

McCarthy has served as senior deputy general counsel since joining BNY Mellon in 2010. Prior to this, he was general counsel at Cowen Group, an investment bank. Between 2004 and 2007, he was a partner at Wilmer Hale, where he focused on securities and litigation work. Before this McCarthy held several leadership roles at Credit Suisse First Boston, which included global head of litigation.
