$124.3 billion Bank of America Corporation has appointed Brian Moynihan, formerly president of Global Corporate and Investment Banking, as general counsel, effective immediately. Moynihan succeeds Timothy Mayopoulos, who has left the company.

Moynihan will continue to serve as CEO of Banc of America Securities during the transition period in connection with the acquisition of Merrill Lynch & Co. He will report to Chairman and CEO Ken Lewis.

Moynihan joined Bank of America in 2004 as the president of the Global Wealth and Investment Management unit, following Bank of America’s FleetBoston Financial acquisition.
