Avon Products has appointed James Thompson as senior vice president, general counsel, and chief ethics and compliance officer, effective Aug. 1. Thompson will succeed Jeff Benjamin in these roles following his retirement.

Thompson will report directly to Avon's Chief Executive Officer Sheri McCoy and will be based at Avon's headquarters in London.

Thompson previously served as the executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary to Chiquita Brands International for nine years. Prior to Chiquita, he served as group vice president and general counsel to McLeodUSA, a publicly-traded telecommunications company and as director, international legal to Alticor, the parent company of Amway, a global direct selling company. His earlier experience includes significant domestic U.S. and international antitrust and corporate work at the law firm Jones Day in Washington D.C. and Brussels.
