$14.1 billion AutoNation, an automotive retailer, has appointed Michael Larson and Robert Brown as independent directors, effective as of Feb. 24. These appointments expand the board to ten members.

Larson is chief investment officer for William Gates, III, a co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, and the Business Manager of Cascade Investment, which is wholly owned by Gates. Brown serves as the chairman and CEO of B&C Associates, a management consulting, marketing research, and public relations firm. Brown previously served as a director of AutoNation from May 1997 until May 2008.
