The Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) to the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) has appointed Linda de Beer as its new chairman to serve a three-year term, effective Oct. 1. She will succeed David Damant, who has served as the first independent IAASB CAG chairman since June 2004.

The IAASB CAG is an independent body, charged with providing advice on technical and public interest matters relating to IAASB draft standards and strategy. The IAASB is an independent standard-setting board that represents various members, including regulators, preparers, and others with an interest in international auditing and assurance. As chairman, de Beer will provide leadership direction to the CAG, ensuring that the group achieves its objectives, and also will serve as a liaison between the IAASB and the Public Interest Oversight Board, which oversees the activities of the IAASB and the CAG.

As a representative of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, de Beer currently represents the World Federation of Exchanges on the CAG.
