The SEC's Amelia Cottrell has been promoted to the position of Associate Regional Director for Enforcement in the agency's New York Regional Office. Since 2008, Cottrell has served as that office's Assistant Regional Director as well as a member of the Enforcement Division's Market Abuse Unit.

The Associate Regional Director position was previously held by Sanjay Wadhwa. Wadwha was recently named Senior Associate Regional Director for Enforcement in New York. In her new position, Cottrell will supervise a staff of approximately 180 enforcement attorneys, investigators, accountants, and paralegals.

Cottrell joined the SEC in 2005. Her notable cases at the SEC include the recent enforcement action against hedge fund firm CR Intrinsic that resulted in a $600 million settlement--the largest settlement ever obtained by the SEC in an insider trading case. Previously, Cottrell was an attorney at law firms Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, as well as Jones Day.
