Embattled insurance company American International Group has named Thomas Russo, the former top lawyer of Lehman Brothers, as general counsel. He also will hold the position of executive vice president for legal, compliance, regulatory affairs, and government affairs. Russo assumes the general counsel post formerly held by Anastasia Kelly, who resigned in December 2009 over a government-imposed pay limit.

Prior to AIG, Russo most recently has worked as senior counsel at law firm Patton Boggs since April 2009. He earlier served as Lehman's chief legal officer, a post he acquired January 1993 and held until September 2008, when Lehman declared bankruptcy.

In other news, AIG also named Paulette Mullings Bradnock, a former JPMorgan Chase & Co. audit partner, as director of internal audit, and Jeffrey Hurd as senior vice president of human resources. Hurd, formerly AIG’s chief administrative officer, replaces Andrew Kaslow, the human resources chief who left AIG last year.
