Health care benefits company Aetna has appointed Thomas Jones as chief ethics and compliance officer, effective April 29. In this capacity, Jones will oversee, develop and integrate compliance strategies, policies and procedures and lead the compliance department. Jones succeeds Thomas Young, who is retiring from Aetna after 27 years of service.  

Jones joins Aetna from The Hartford Financial Services Group, where he served as senior vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer, overseeing the compliance program for financial services products, retirement plans, group benefits, and personal and commercial property-casualty insurance businesses.

Prior to The Hartford, Jones served as chief compliance officer at SEI Funds and its investment advisers. He also held various executive positions, including first vice president and compliance director for the Americas at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers Jones began his career as a business and finance practice associate at law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
