Plano, Texas-based IT services company EDS announced that former Sprint EVP and chief staff officer Bruce Hawthorne would take over the duties of EVP, secretary and general counsel from Gil Friedlander, who will return to private practice.

Hawthorne will direct EDS’ global legal operations, and will lead the company’s Office of Ethics and Business Conduct.

Prior to joining Sprint in 2003, Hawthorne served as a senior partner with King & Spalding for nearly 30 years. During those years he served more than a decade as Sprint’s lead outside legal counsel.

Also making news at EDS was an announcement that the Department of Housing and Urban Development granted it a contract worth up to $750 million to develop a nationwide IT infrastructure and telecommunications service. The company beat out a bid by rival Lockheed Martin.

EDS does not provide much information on its Office of Ethics and Business Conduct, but the company's 28-page Code of Conduct is available for download for those interested.
